New Podcast: Dr Ben Alderson-Day on ‘What’s new about prediction?’
In this podcast, which was recorded at our workshop on Hallucination and Prediction at St Chad’s College, Durham University on 7-8th July 2016, Dr Ben Alderson-Day gives an introduction to the predictive processing framework for understanding hearing voices and other unusual experiences.
Hallucination and Prediction Workshop, 7–8th July 2016
Recently scientists and theorists have been interested in applying this idea to hearing voices and other unusual experiences. Earlier this month Hearing the Voice hosted our first workshop on Hallucination and Prediction, a series of talks and discussions aimed at discussing the topic in more depth. The workshop was divided into three parts: first, some general theoretical views on predictive processing; second, how we might apply it to understanding psychosis; and third, how we might use computational modelling and A.I. to study the topic. In this blog post, Sam Wilkinson and Ben Alderson-Day summarise some of the highlights from the two days.

Two New British Academy Fellows from Hearing the Voice
We are delighted to announce that Professor Patricia Waugh, co-investigator on Hearing the Voice, and our collaborator Professor Sophie Scott (University College London) have been elected as Fellows of the British Academy, in recognition of their outstanding contribution to research.
Registration now open! International Consortium on Hallucination Research Chicago Satellite Meeting, University of Illinois, 25-27 September 2016
Registration is now open for the 2016 Chicago satellite meeting of the International Consortium on Hallucination Research, which will take place at the University of Illinois Medical Campus, from 25 September to 28 September 2016. Hosted by Sarah Keedy (University of Chicago), Cherise Rosen (University of Illinois at Chicago), and Nev Jones (Felton Institute), this inaugural North American gathering of the interdisciplinary ICHR will feature leading researchers, clinicians, and thinkers from Europe, the United Kingdom, Australia, and the US, with parallel research and clinical tracks.
Call for Participants: Do you hear spirit voices?
Have you ever had spiritual communication experiences? We want to know more about what these experiences are like. Hearing the Voice is currently running a study on ‘clairaudient’ experiences, where people hear spiritual voices talking to them, or feel like they are being communicated with in some way. A warm welcome to everyone joining us today for our workshop on Prediction and Hallucination at St Chad’s College, Durham University. Organised by Ben Alderson-Day and Sam Wilkinson, this two-day workshop brings together philosophers, psychologists, cognitive scientists, neuroscientists, hallucinations researchers and clinicians in order to share current theories, opinions and findings on predictive processing framework (PPF) approaches to hearing voices and other unusual experiences.
