Job description
The Faculty of Arts and Humanities seeks to appoint a fixed-term postdoctoral research fellow to work with University researchers and New Writing North (www.newwritingnorth.com), organisers of the Durham Book Festival. The successful candidate will be supervised by colleagues from the project team of the Wellcome Trust-funded programme ‘Hearing the Voice’ (https://hearingthevoice.org), which is investigating the phenomenon of voice-hearing (auditory-verbal hallucinations) from a range of perspectives including philosophy, literature, theology, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, psychiatry and the medical humanities. S/he will be responsible for developing a series of innovative public-engagement events at the 2013 Book Festival linked to the Hearing the Voice project, and for establishing a framework for ongoing collaboration between New Writing North and Hearing the Voice. This is an exciting opportunity for an outstanding early career researcher to gain significant professional experience in the cultural sector and an arts environment. The post will be based at the New Writing North offices in central Newcastle. Office hours are 9.30am-5.30pm Monday-Friday, with occasional weekend and evening work.

Recent submission or award (within 5 years) of a PhD in a humanities subject that addresses issues relevant to the Hearing the Voice project (https://hearingthevoice.org).
Responsibilities
To work with New Writing North and the University:
- To organise a series of innovative public events linked to the Hearing the Voice project, including author readings and panel events, for the 2013 Durham Book Festival.
- To identify and secure the participation of appropriate authors and other contributors for the planned events.
- To help generate appropriate publicity and marketing material alongside the festival Marketing and Communications Manager.
- To work more broadly across the planning and programming of the 2013 Durham Book Festival when necessary.
- To develop a strategy for future interactions between the Durham Book Festival and the Hearing the Voice project, thereby ensuring ongoing impact and knowledge exchange, as well as developing the partnership between Durham University and New Writing North.
