Working with Voices 2016
Hearing the Voice is delighted to collaborate with the Tees, Esk and Wear Valleys NHS Foundation Trust (TEWV) to produce Working with Voices – a four day training course that aims to equip TEWV staff working with people who experience distressing voices with hands-on skills that can be used in their clinical practice. All sessions are informed by the latest academic research into voice-hearing, and are co-produced and co-presented by people with lived experience of voices or other unusual mental states.
Dates for the training programme are as follows:
Monday 18 April 2016 – Maths Department, Science Site, Durham University
Day 1: Assessment of voices
– Challenging diagnostic assumptions
– Using the Maastricht interview
– Assessing beliefs about voices
Monday 6 June 2016 – Durham Business School, Durham University
Day 2: Core skills in working with distressing voices
– Using NICE recommended therapy skills
– Using art therapy with people who hear voices
Monday 18 July 2016 – St Aidan’s College, Durham University
Day 3: Voice dialogue
– Engaging with voices
– Changing the nature of the relationship with voices
Monday 26 September 2016 – Van Mildert College, Durham University
Day 4 – Safety and voices
– Working with voices which take over
– Working with voices that ‘command’
– Management strategies for risks of harm
