Ariel Swyer photoA warm welcome to Ariel Swyer who joins Hearing the Voice as a doctoral researcher in the Department of Psychology and the Institute of Medical Humanities. Ariel writes:

I am delighted to join Hearing the Voice as a PhD student in psychology and medical humanities. I did my undergraduate degree in philosophy at Swarthmore College, and my master’s in psychology at the University of Glasgow.  I have spent the past couple of years in New York City teaching psychology and working at an outpatient mental health clinic.

At Durham my research will examine non-clinical voice-hearing in the context of voice hearers’ lives, looking at the ways in which their communities and fundamental beliefs about the world interact with these experiences. I will be collaborating with several researchers in the UK and US who have worked with various non-clinical voice hearing populations, allowing me to compare these populations and look for patterns across groups.

I am very excited to be part of this community and look forward to having conversations about the range of fascinating work taking place here!
