COMPETITION NOW OPEN
Are you a high calibre researcher with an interest in voice-hearing and other unusual experiences? Are you an active researcher with an established or international reputation for scholarship and research leadership? Or are you actively engaged in translating academic research on voices and other unusual mental states into policy, practice or technological innovation?
If so, Hearing the Voice would like to invite you to apply for a Durham International Fellowship for Research and Enterprise (DIFeREns). Successful applicants will be hosted by Hearing the Voice for the duration of their fellowship.
DURHAM INTERNATIONAL FELLOWSHIPS FOR RESEARCH AND ENTERPRISE (DIFeREns)
Launched in 2011, this scheme COFUNDed between Durham University and the European Union is designed to gather together scholars, researchers, policy makers or practitioners from around the world and across the full spectrum of science, social science, arts and humanities to address themes of global significance in collaboration with Durham’s Research Institutes and researchers.
There are two main fellowship schemes:
JUNIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP SCHEME
Junior Research Fellowships are aimed at postdoctoral researchers typically with 2-5 years post-doctoral experience. JRFs pursue new research ideas of their own design, normally for 2 years by which time they should be of a standing and maturity to win permanent positions.
Each JRF has a mentor and a personal development to develop their research management and leadership skills and will be able to take advantage of the award-winning University Research Training Programme. Starting salaries are in the range £31,342–£35,256 p.a. and JRFs have full access to the University library, IT resources and specialist research facilities relevant to their project as well as up to €7K p.a. for research consumables, travel and conference attendance.
Please note that applicants for JRFs must hold a PhD at the time of application and have resided outside of the UK for two of the preceding three years. Full details of the eligibility criteria for JRFs can be found here.
If you are interested in applying for a JRF, please contact Ben Alderson-Day in the first instance to discuss your application. It is a requirement that candidates have departmental support for their application to be considered eligible and for it to be carried forward.
The deadline for applications for Junior Research Fellowships is Friday 4 December 2015. The competition is now open, and as it can take time to secure departmental support for your application, please do contact us as soon as possible if you’re interested in applying.
SENIOR RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP SCHEME
Senior Research and Policy & Enterprise Fellowships allow holders to develop their research and ideas collaboratively in Durham’s thriving academic community. Available for periods of 6 weeks to 6 months applications are considered from researchers with an established or emerging international reputation for scholarship or research leadership.
Please note that applicants for a Senior Fellow must have resided outside of the UK for two out of the preceding three years.
Before applying for a Senior Fellowship, applicants must seek the agreement of a Durham University academic to act as their host. If you would like to apply for an SRF hosted by Hearing the Voice, please contact Ben Alderson-Day in the first instance to discuss your application.
The deadline for applications for Senior Fellowships is Friday 8 January 2016. The competition is now open, so please do contact us as soon as possible if you’re interested in applying.
