Hearing Voices is a dramatised song-cycle composed by Jocelyn Pook, in collaboration with director/dramaturg Emma Bernard and mezzo-soprano Melanie Pappenheim.
Inspired by Pook’s great aunt Phyllis Williams, whose diaries chart her incarceration and her struggle to live with the voices she heard, Hearing Voices unleashes the pain, laughter and protest of women who’ve experienced mental illness across the generations.
