A new work by Ridiculusmus The Eradication of Schizophrenia in Western Lapland aims to dispel the stigma surrounding schizophrenia and raise awareness of non-medical approaches to coping with distressing voices. Inspired by an approach to the treatment of psychosis called ‘open dialogue’ which has virtually eradicated the condition from the area of Finland where it originated, the play examines the effects of psychosis on several members of a fictional family. It also uses innovative theatrical techniques (e.g a split staging arrangement) to replicate the experience of auditory hallucinations and convey a sense of the confusion and chaos that is often associated with the experience of psychosis.
The Eradication of Schizophrenia in Western Lapland is currently touring the UK. Remaining dates in the tour include:
28 March, 1.30 pm
The Poly, Falmouth
29 March, 8pm
Village Hall, Grampound
