Over the next few weeks, the Star and Shadow Cinema, up the road in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, is running a season of films about the perception and understanding of mental health problems.
The documentary Every Little Thing looks especially good. It’s screening on Wednesday October 24th, and follows the staff and patients at the La Borde psychiatric clinic in France as they prepare their annual summer play. La Borde clinic is an interesting place as it pioneered approaches that involve treating patients diagnosed with schizophrenia as ‘normal’ people who can work alongside members of staff (e.g., doing secretarial work or gardening).
Tickets for the film cost £5 on the night, or £3.50 for concessions. However, no one will be turned away from Star and Shadow Cinema for lack of funds.
